About

Sahil Bahl

Sahil is an American guitarist and singer known for a deeply introspective approach to songwriting. Focusing on lyrical depth and riff-based fingerstyle guitar, he creates a unique brand of contemporary folk-rock music, best summed up as Poetry set to Song.

In his songs, you may hear hints of Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake, Jimmy Page, or Ben Harper. But expect only hints, because just like any of those listed here, Sahil’s style is all his own.

Sahil’s life as a performer began at the age of 18 when he packed a suitcase and an acoustic guitar and left his home in New Jersey for Los Angeles, California, the birthplace of so many great rock bands that dominated the radio airwaves of his youth. For the next decade, he performed original music regularly all over LA at notable Hollywood clubs like the famous Cat Club on the Sunset Strip, the Coconut Teaszer, M-Bar, Bar 20, the Airliner downtown, the Joint, Club Trip in Santa Monica, and many more.

Honing his skills as a songwriter and performer, Sahil’s most notable recorded output from this period can be heard in the original score of the National Geographic documentary Tunnel to a Lost World (2008).

After completing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Business with a minor in Classical Guitar from Cal-State University, Northridge, the call for adventure came again and Sahil packed up and moved once more, this time to Europe. After spending one year in Germany, he settled in the Hague in the Netherlands where he began focusing on recording.

In 2016 he released his singles “Holly” (a fan favorite) and “Praise”, followed by his debut album, the stripped-down, folky First Breath at the Water’s Edge. In 2020 he released his follow-up EP, Ask the Child, which featured a full band and a more polished studio sound.

The music video for the album opener, “Keep it with Yours” is a heartfelt homage to the great Charlie Chaplin. Upon its release, the video which featured Sahil and his then 9 year old son, received a glowing review on the front page of the Hague newspaper The Posthoorn and was officially selected for the Amsterdam Lift-Off Film Festival in 2021.

Sahil is currently in pre-production of his third album, with recording dates set for early 2024.
